Keeping retro and legacy games alive via emulators is nothing new and the community that has been built up around game emulation is immense. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft have done a terrible job bringing old games to new systems and platforms. Like all tech, gaming consoles become outdated, break down, and will eventually be lost to time.
For someone like me, it was expensive to try and play older games for two reasons. The first was having to purchase a console I never owned and had to buy second hand. The second was trying to find a quality game disk or cartridge. Both were expensive, especially for popular top rated games. Just to play the original version of Ocarina of Time, I would have needed to spend close to $150. Sure, I could have found cheaper versions, but the quality was more than questionable.
